Raising the white flag, in not only American history but world history, represents surrender.
Surrender - To yield; To give oneself up into the power of another; To give up completely or agree to forego especially in favor of another [Definitions taken from Merriam-Webster Dictionary]
"Surrender is deeply misunderstood as an act of weakness. Surrender is the most brave and lucid thing a human ever does, and that's why it's so precious to the Divine." ~Unknown
"The moment of surrender is not when life is over. It's when it begins." ~Unknown
Who or what is worth your surrender?
How about the God of the universe? Creator of this world and everything/one in it including you and me. How about the breath of life or the bread of life? How about the Light of the world? How about a hope beyond this world especially in its present condition? How about the Savior? How about the One who holds all power? How about Love?
In answering yes to any one or all of those inquiries, there's hope for you yet. Blessed enough for us, my God... Jesus is all of that and more!

So, I don't know about you but I'm raising up the white flags. [Note: For a Christian, raising our arms is a sign of surrender to the One who sits and reigns on the throne.] My Jesus reigns! My God wins!
